Fieldwork at two Global engineering classrooms in Taiwan (2022-2023)
Informed by the belief that a fusion of teaching and research is achievable, and inspired by critical pedagogy, we hoped to establish a dialogue-based global engineering classroom aimed at challenging prevailing pedagogical norms and better preparing our Taiwanese engineering students with global engineering competencies. To achieve this, as a teaching/research assistant I conducted classroom observations in two global engineering classrooms in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) during the Fall term of 2022 and the Spring term of 2023. The goal was to enhance our pedagogical approaches and to explore opportunities for cross-border global engineering teaching and research collaborations.
Master thesis fieldwork at an analytical chemistry laboratory in Taiwan (2020-2022)
My two-year fieldwork, conducted amidst the challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic, at an analytical chemistry laboratory in Taiwan stands out as one of my most significant experiences. Throughout this period, I closely observed the tireless efforts of scientists and students as they endeavored to develop testing technologies for COVID, aiming to race against the spread of the pandemic within Taiwan and beyond. This fieldwork provided me with insights into laboratory practices, work culture dynamics, as well as STEM education and talent cultivation in Taiwan.
